Web Service: Self-contained software module available via a network. SOA: Service-oriented architecture, a software architecture based on Web services. BP: A Business Process “consists of a set of activities that are performed in coordination in an organizational and technical environment.”[42] BPM: Business Process Management “includes concepts, methods, and techniques to support the design, administration, configuration, enactment, and analysis of business processes.”[42] Composition: A combination of web services achieving a higher-value service. BPEL: Business process execution language, a programming language for creating compositions. BPMN: Business process model and notation, a high-level notation and semantics for compositions. Manual composition: The process of creating a composition by hand. Automatic composition: The process of creating a composition based on a description of what it should achieve. Planning: An area of Artificial Intelligence aiming at equipping computers with general problem solving capabilities.
